Sinclair is an unincorporated community in Butler County, Iowa, United States.[1] It was a frequent stop for the Underground Railroad during and before the American Civil War. The town was founded in 1843. Prior to the founding of the town it was nothing more than a railroad stop. Throughout the years the town has had periods of expansion and hard times. During the Great Depression the town of Sinclair and its population of twelve suffered greatly.
On May 25, 2008, a tornado ripped through southern Butler County, and destroyed the Sinclair Elevator, ripping apart grain bins and throwing anhydrous ammonia tanks into fields.
Sinclair is east of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Northwest of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
